Beer camping

How nice a beercamping...
pay for the night including or excluding beer from the nearby cerveceria
but....

something went wrong and we ended up on a beercamping drinking a good
bottle of wine...

(not drunk, but photo won't turn somehow)

Volcano Puyehue

Earlier this week we drove from Osorno to Bariloche, via Paso Cardenal A Samore.
In June 2011 the volcano, erupted and damaged a great part of the forest. Looks like driving in another world. Tonnes of ash are still alongside the road and they just finished building a new road

Volcano's everywhere...

We survived the Carretera Austral which was a rattling but gorgeous trip. Now overviewing the Bay of Puerto Montt with Volcano Osorno and Calbuco in the far distance. We take a few days rest here before we pick up Marco's Mom and continue to the Lakes district and to Bariloche in Argentina, where we intend to stay for Christmas (with 20-25 degrees and no snow, cold and darkness, it feels different)

Home made bread

My first attempt of making home made bread away from home was a succes!  I used my dutch oven for the first time on a bricket fire and it turned out ok. Still up for some improvement but even the kids liked it! They want me to make it every day now....

Still alive

The last 2 weeks it was a bit quiet. We were facing no phone coverage and ample internet availability while camping and hiking in El Chalten. Beautiful trekkings in the Fitz Roy mountains, and thereafter rambling on Ruta 40 heading North and visited Cueva de los Manos

Now we are close to the Chilean border in Perito Moreno. Tomorrow go Chili Chico and then
1000km gravel to Chiloe en route to Puerto Montt where we have to be on December 17th
to pick up Marco's Mom

now we are heading for the Carratera Austral to Chiloe

We are in El Calafate / Perito Moreno

2 days of visiting Perito Moreno. Overnight camping in the park, unfortunately at a distance from the glacier as camping in the parking lot is not allowed anymore and they simply wait till you leave, but even from a distance it is great and cool to see first thing in the morning from you window.
Now going to El Chalten in Argentina for more glaciers and hiking

Torres del Paine NP

Two 'wanderfull' days of hiking.
Although the wind was fierce and we are in full winter outfit we are enjoying ourselves with the shorter hikes in the park. Maybe we try a longer one later this week.....

Very pleased

Although he spend another day repairing things in the camper in the end he was very pleased. Not because everything was fixed but with his homeland brew beer....

From Tierra del Fuego to Chile

After our visit in Ushuaia and the Tierra del Fuego National Park, we drove back to Rio Grande and later on the Porvenir, Chile to take the ferry across Magallan Strait to Punta Arenas where we are now. Our next stop will be the Torres del Paine N.P, but we need to prepare first with sufficient food, water, gas, diesel and do our laundry.

Beagle Canal @ Ushuaia

We arrived in Ushuaia

After 2.5 months, 8000km and  a broken clutch we arrived in Ushuaia. The last part through Tierra del Fuego is a nice trip, a winding road over the mountains still covered in snow. We are now facing the Beagle Canal and the city (and some wind as usual).

We can't go more south, from here we turn around to go North into Chile.

We are almost there

There being the most southern point of our trip. We were already at the most southern point of africa and the most southern point of new zealand, so now it is time to go to the most southern point of south america. Of course it will not be THE most southern point but just the one you can reach by normal roads.
We are in rio grande now and will go to ushuaia tomorrow. We heard that there was still snow there so we might have some winter fun in spring!

Whales a.o.

We are back at our camping spot at puerto piramides on the peninsula valdes. Beautiful whale watching from our windows.
Today we spent time with our argentinian friends Graciela and Adrian. They invited us to join them on a tour on the peninsula in their bus which they transformed into a luxurious camper (including bathtub!) Although they found out that ripio roads are VERY dusty, we had a wonderful time. We saw loads of animals; the kids loved the seals and penguins!

On the road again

It's official now. We are back on the road. Not that we have driven very far, but the clutch is working again.
This morning it arrived from Bahia Blanca and they installed it before lunch break. They must have wanted us gone as much as we wanted to go! After 12 days of harrasing them, of which 6 days camping out in front of the shop, we can finally continue our adventure. Patagonia here we come!

Still waiting

A pity, after a very optimistic Wednesday they finally "repaired" our camper, however after 1 km we had to turn around. The same problem appeared. The next morning they had to return our clutch back to Bahia Blanca for another repair. Our spareparts from Holland can only be here next week Wednesday, so we are still stuck.

Hopefully the repair of the old clutch will succeed tomorrow (Saturday), so at least we can be on the road again...For time being camping in front of the garage ...very exotic :-(

Repaired

Don't know how they did it but our clutch is repaired and hopefully installed by the end of the day

We're stuck !

Last thursday while driving, we got problem with the camper clutch...First in the fifth gear, later on in the lower gears as well. We hardly made it to a campground, luckily with internet, so we could start making decent calls without a huge bill.. After consulting our local Ford garage in Brielle, we determined the clutch ended...either burned or simply broke...Immediate repair required !
In the lowest gear only we reach a local Taller at the entrance of Las Grutas in Rio Negro, but despite this being a brand new shop, they only installed doors with a height of 3 meter...and we are 3.30 mtr, but the friendly owners arranged another garage in the next
village San Antonio Oeste where they towed us to...

to be continued...
